While in the United States there are great number of crowdsourcing initiatives that work really well (just look the crowdsourcing infographic designed by crowdsourcing.org), in Europe, specifically in Spain, this number of initiatives is rather small.
One of the main reasons is that Jason Aiken, Community Director of 99Designs, argued in the San Francisco Crowdsourcing Conference (1st and 2nd of November of 2011). Jason said that there is a need to educate in the use of crowdsourcing to both crowdsourcers and crowdworkers (individuals in the crowd taking part in the initiative).
In our particular case, in Spain, there are two reasons for this poor state of crowdsourcing. In first place, there is the before mentioned lack of knowledge about crowdsourcing. In the second place, there is a lack of courage to take risks and to go ahead and use it.
This situation can be shown in the following infographic I’ve done about the crowdsourcing landscape in Spain (crowdsourcing.org style). It is not about individual cases as “The Cosmonaut” or similar (there are many projects funded by crowdfunding in Spain) but about crowdsourcing platform from companies that use it as their business model or, at least, as an added value to the customers or users.
As you can see there are 38 platforms, from which two (userFarm and spreadShirt) are not from Spanish although they have specific portals for this country. The caso of 12designer is an special case because is 50% from Spain and 50% from Germany.
What other crowdsourcing platforms from Spain do you know? If you know any, please suggest it in the comments to complete the infographic.
